It has been a few weeks since the last seed but Apple has finally delivered the latest beta of the iOS 5.1 upgrade to their developers over-the-air as well as through the Apple Developer Center website.

While there are a number of upgrades being added, the primary concerns being addressed by the first major update to iOS 5 are related to the reported battery issues being experienced by the iPhone 4S and the iCloud PhotoStream feature (such as users wanting have more control over their PhotoStream with the added ability to remove photos).

While those two items are present and of interest to many of us, the re-appearance of the 3G toggle switch in the settings is bringing a smile to those in areas with sketchy service. This setting alone will help the battery life significantly for those affected.

As is the tradition, developers are pouring over the code-base with the proverbial fine-tooth comb. Everybody wants to be the first one to break the next big rumor on what we can expect from Apple in the future. So far the biggest hint we’ve seen is a likely move toward a new core processor –perhaps even a quad-core A6 which would be a welcome addition to the highly anticipated iPad 3 and iPhone 5 devices.

We are all waiting eagerly for this update but there is no news on a release date just yet. Many are speculating that it will be one of the news-worthy items that comes out of the Apple event scheduled to take place later this month (that promises to be in direct competition with CES news and events). This might make good sense given that the focus of this winter’s event is rumored to be on publishing… and might give us a hint on other things to be included (like being able to remove the Newsstand if you choose).
