Comcast Reaches Deal with Disney for Channels on the Go

There’s some great news for those of you who subscribe to Comcast’s service and use Comcast’s Xfinity TV app. The company has signed a 10-year distribution agreement with The Walt Disney Company, allowing Comcast customers access to many more channels on television, online and on tablets and smartphones.
Comcast’s Xfinity TV customers are now able to watch ESPN, ABC, and Disney shows both live and on demand, across multiple screens. And, unlike other cable-to-iPad offerings, Comcast subscribers can watch their television shows both at home and while out and about.
The deal will bring in hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for Disney, and Comcast’s 20 million subscribers can access all Disney content, like Disney XD, ABC, ABC family, and all of the ESPN channels. The agreement between the two companies includes 70 different services, including on demand viewing and out-of-home viewing, giving paying subscribers access to shows, sports, and news at any time and in any place.
“Comcast was the first video provider to create technology that enabled us to deliver content to customers where and when they want it across any viewing experience,” said Neil Smit, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comcast Cable. “We are very pleased to have reached this unprecedented and innovative, long-term agreement with Disney which embraces the future of entertainment and allows Comcast to continue to bring our vision of TV Everywhere to Xfinity customers whether at home or on the go.”
This is good news for subscribers, but Comcast’s mobile offerings are still a bit lacking in the whole “working and functional” department. Maybe in this new agreement Disney will help Comcast fix their iPad and iPhone apps so customers can actually enjoy the new content on their mobile devices? Let’s hope so.
