ITunes 10.5.3 Out

The new version of iTunes, 10.5.3, was released on Thursday with support for the new iBooks 2 application, which is now available on iOS. This update will allow users to sync textbook purchases between computers and the iPad.

iBooks 2 is dedicated to new interactive, digital titles that are designed to reinvent the conventional textbook. It was announced by Apple at its New York Event this earlier this morning.

According to the description:

“iTunes 10.5.3 allows you to sync interactive textbooks to your iPad. These Multi-Touch textbooks are available for purchase from the iTunes Store on your Mac or from the iBookstore included with iBooks 2 on your iPad.”

There are already several textbooks available in the iBookstore, and none retails for more than $14.99. $14.99 is guaranteed to be the maximum textbook price by Apple, a price which was agreed on by major publishers like McGraw Hill, Pearson, and DK Publishing.

The new iTextbooks will include interactive elements like videos, slideshows, and quizzes, to enhance the learning experience. A free sample book, E.O. Wilson’s Life on Earth is available in the store, so everyone can give the new books a test drive.
