London Olympic Visitors to Enjoy Europe’s Largest Free WiFi Zone

A new deal between the Westminster City Council, the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and network operator O2 promises to deliver free WiFi access to all residents and visitors in Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea. This agreement will create the largest free wireless hub in Europe, providing WiFi access to millions.

This cost-free deal will ensure that visitors during both the 2012 Summer Olympic Games and the Diamond Jubilee (for Queen Elizabeth II) are able to have the best experience possible – by providing reliable Internet access with no expensive data roaming fees.

The free WiFi is great news for Olympic attendees, who will be able to access social networks and upload pictures in real time during the event, via their favorite device. Nearby businesses will also benefit from the initiative both in the short term and in the long run.

Provider O2 WiFi, which launched in 2011, is dedicated to creating fast, free, and open WiFi through strategic partnerships across the UK.

The Metro wireless network is currently being installed, by attaching wireless access points to street furniture like lamp posts and benches. The network will be partially operational in June, and fully operational by the end of July, when the Summer Olympics begin.
