Polycom’s RealPresence Mobile Turns Your iPad 2 into a Mobile Video Conference Room

We’ve recently seen a surge in enterprise application development, now that companies everywhere are adopting the iPad as a business tool. Employees are becoming increasingly mobile with the ability to work from home and on the road.

Polycom’s new RealPresence Mobile app claims to be the only true enterprise-class HD video teleconferencing solution for tablets, developed specifically for big businesses.

The newly released app is built on Polycom’s RealPresence Platform, allowing users to get the same secure HD video, audio, and content-sharing right on their iPads. The app is designed to be used in the boardroom within an enterprise firewall, or on the go, using a Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G connection. The app is able to connect with anyone who is video-enabled, on laptops, tablets, desktop computers, or video conference rooms.

Videoconferencing apps are a hot item right now, and Polycom’s rival, Cisco Systems, also has several desktop and mobile videoconferencing applications that are designed to work together. Polycom is counting on usability and interface to give it a leg up on competitors.

The app allows users to connect to 16 different calls at once, and supports a dozen video screens. PDFs, Powerpoint presentations, and other documents can be easily distributed to all participants for viewing and discussion. With a virtual private network, everything remains completely secure.

Polycom’s new RealPresence Mobile app for the iPad 2 is currently available for download in the App Store. There are also apps that work with the Motorola Xoom and the Samsung Galaxy, offering mobile videoconferencing capabilities to almost all tablet users.
