The iPad and an Angry Bird Head to Space

Everybody’s favorite red-feathered Angry Birds celebrity is boldly going where few men and women have gone before. The next unmanned resupply vehicle headed for the International Space Station next month will be loaded with much needed propellant, oxygen, water, thousands of pounds of crew equipment and 2 iPads all ready to entertain the Russians who will receive them.
In addition to the iPads themselves, a stuffed Angry Bird toy will be sent along as well –though the purpose is to signal weightlessness (also called a zero-g indicator) and not give the waiting astronauts something to cuddle at night. That side-benefit is purely optional.
The crew is already familiar with Apple products as these iPads join several iPods that already boarded the space station in 2005 and an iPhone that flew there on NASA’s final shuttle mission in July of this year.
So if the iPads are indeed also loaded with the Angry Birds game itself, and success with that app is a measure of physics skill, Russia had better hope that their astronauts are really good at this game… don’t you think?
